WHAT IS ResurFX?
ResurFX is a revolutionary fractional treatment that combines all the benefits of skin resurfacing and rejuvenation in one treatment with minimal downtime. Fractional treatments treat only a fraction of the skin, leaving bridges of untouched skin that aid in the healing process and reduce healing times enabling you to return to normal activities quicker.
In just 1-2 treatments, ResurFX fractionated laser therapy will stimulate collegen to tighten skin, reduce deep wrinkles and acne scarring, and erase sun spots. Many patients elect to have sun-damaged skin on their neck and chest/décolleté area treated as well. Healing time is generally 5-7 days with some redness and minimal peeling. One week later you’ll be looking smoother, brighter, and you’ll see continued improvement for 3-6 months.
- Maximum results in a single treatment
- Smoother, tighter skin & contours
- Deep wrinkle/scar improvement
- Immediate skin tightening
- Stimulates Collagen
- Softening of smokers’ lines & vertical lip lines
- Fading of skin discoloration
HOW DOES IT WORK?
ResurFX utilizes a very narrow laser microbeam to remove columns of tissue deep into the layers of the skin. The body then heals the channel, which immediately stimulates new collagen growth to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars and fine lines. ResurFX uses a larger beam to treat the upper layer of skin to remove unwanted pigmentation, promote new skin regeneration, and improve fine lines and texture. In one treatment, ResurFX stimulates collagen growth for up six months and can improve the appearance of: scars, wrinkles, fine lines, tone, texture and pigmentation.
WHAT IS A ResurFX TREATMENT LIKE?
The ResurFX procedure is applied in two steps. First we will numb your skin with a topical anesthetic to aid in treatment comfort. The ResurFX laser technician will laser the skin to target your areas of concern. Your total treatment time will last approximately 60 minutes, though total time will vary depending on the areas treated. During the procedure, you will feel a warm sensation as the laser is applied. Immediately following treatment, your skin will be warm, and will appear as though you were sunburned. We will provide you with a skin care regimen to follow for the days after your treatment and as your skin heals, you will begin to notice an improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, scars, pigmentation, tone and texture in 4-6 weeks. You should expect to continue to see improvement for up to six months following the procedures.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FOLLOWING TREATMENT?
Immediately after the procedure the skin will be very hot for about 2-4 hours. The skin may be tender to touch for a few hours in any areas that have been treated with ResurFX. This is normal and expected.
Your provider will give you thorough instructions for how to care for your skin after your procedure. Use only the products recommended by your provider. You may notice mild swelling. The more aggressive the treatment, the greater the swelling is likely to be. Most swelling improves by day 3. During this time you can wash your face with a gentle cleanser or cold water. Detailed post care instructions will be given to you after your procedure.
You may also notice some minor itching, but notify us if itching is more than mild and not controlled with Benadryl capsules (never use Benadryl cream). If you have a history of cold sores you should be taking an antiviral such as Valtrex or Acyclovir. Some patients do have breakouts after a few days of having the occlusive ointment on their skin. The day after treatment you should be able to start back with mineral make-up.
WHAT IS IPL?
IPL is an external light therapy to improve color, consistency and texture of skin by targeting problems in deeper skin layers, without disrupting the surface—in other words, there’s no downtime because nothing is visibly damaged after your treatment! Because IPL eliminates damaged skin cells while simultaneously stimulating collagen growth, we use it to treat a wide range of concerns, from brown age spots and dull, tired skin to red blood vessels and rosacea. Works great on sun-damaged chest and hands too!
IPL is the light wave of the future for younger looking skin! The Wall Street Journal named IPL the treatment of choice to take a few years off aging, sun-damaged skin. You may choose IPL for:
- Minimize redness or broken blood vessels in the cheeks, nose and other areas of the face
- Erase stubborn dark “age spots” that are too deep for conventional peels
- Reduce pore size, dark spots, and mild acne scars without downtime
We often combine IPL and deep exfoliation treatments (such as a microdermabrasion) for even more dramatic results. Typically, we schedule a series of IPL treatments and space a microdermabrasion treatment 1 to 2 weeks after the IPL treatment. Treatment time is so brief it can be done on your lunch hour, with no downtime! Now you can rejuvenate your skin for radiant, glowing skin, reduced pore size, less redness and up to 80% improvement in age spots, with long-lasting results!
WHAT IS AN IPL TREATMENT LIKE?
The IPL technician will treat the skin with the intense pulse light to target your areas of concern. Your total treatment time will last approximately 60 minutes, though total time will vary depending on the areas treated. During the procedure, you will feel a warm sensation as the IPL is applied. Immediately following treatment, your skin will be warm, and will appear as though you were sunburned. We will provide you with a skin care regimen to follow for the days after your treatment and as your skin heals, you will begin to notice an improvement in a week as the sun spots and damage start to flake off and in the following 6 weeks you will see your skin tone and texture improve dramatically.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Typically, we recommend three to six IPL treatments (our providers will help you decide exactly how many for your skin condition). Each treatment runs about forty five minutes to an hour and microdermabrasions take thirty minutes. You may need additional treatments for very large dark spots or for densely covered areas.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?
Treatment may cause some redness, and can last from a few hours to a day. The darker spots look like small “coffee grounds” as they come to the surface and will flake off naturally. Remember to use sun block and avoid direct sun exposure after your IPL treatment.
WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
Laser hair removal targets the entire hair structure, from the hair shaft, down to the follicle, meeting the principle of selective photothermolysis. Light energy with a specific wavelength is primarily absorbed by the endogenous chromophore melanin resulting in rapid heating which is required for local thermal necrosis of the follicles’ regenerative structures.
To achieve permanent hair removal, the laser system must be able to effectively treat the different hair types and colors as well as the various skin types while providing maximum skin protection. The laser’s wavelength, pulse duration and spot size determine the effectiveness of the treatment (on all skin types) and also influence the depth of penetration and treatment speed.
HOW DOES HAIR REMOVAL WORK?
The Lumenis’ LightSheer® DESIRE™ uses state-of-the-art 805nm diode laser technology that has become the preferred method for photoepilation and the industry’s ‘Gold Standard’. The hair removal laser targets pigment in the hair follicle, it destroys the hair follicle in the growth cycle your hair is currently in. The dead follicle will come out on its own or as you shave the area over the following two weeks.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Typically, we recommend six laser hair removal treatments in an area and space them six weeks apart to maximize targeting the hair follicle in its growth cycle. Most people need six to twelve touch ups to target new hair growth, as you age you get new hair that will grow in (single hairs) or if you are on hormone replacement therapy it can cause new hair growth.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?
Treatment may cause some redness, and can last from a few hours to a day. The hair may look like melted strands of hair as they come to the surface and will fall out naturally. Remember to use sun block and avoid direct sun exposure after your IPL treatment.
